Fair Trade Jewelry From India

Delhi and Chennai, India

This Jewelry from India is from three different Fair Trade Jewelry organisations and reflects the beautiful cultural style of Asian jewelry.

The first fair trade jewelry organisation is part of a network of South Indian social organisations involving particularly disadvantaged women. The fair trade jewelry organisation was founded by social workers who are striving to improve the livelihoods of isolated women and their children from the Chennai slum.

This fair trade jewelry organisation provides these women with resources and training to develop the necessary skills to craft these beautiful pieces of India jewelry.

Included in this fair trade jewelry are a colourful selection of hand lacquered and painted wood jewelry using natural vegetable dyes. This fair trade India jewelry style has been inspired by a centuries old technique from Karnataka who made lacquered wood jewelry for local aristocrats. The fair trade jewelry pieces include beatiful wood bracelets, fashion bangles, wood bead necklaces, wood and ribbon necklaces and more.

The same organisation also works with widowed women in Chennai who recycle old plastic bags to create strips to weave into beautifully, bright coloured recycled handbags and recycled beach bags.

The second fair trade jewelry organisation is a self help movement for those who can neither speak nor hear, except visually and others who cannot go anywhere except in their imagination and yet who aspire towards self sufficiency and acceptance as contributing members of the society.

The beautiful fair trade jewelry that they produce demonstrates their artisan jewelry skills and reflects the cultural traditions of India jewelry. The third organisation is a development organisation in Dehli who aim to provide those living in the Dehli slums the opportunity to reach their potential regardless of ethnic background, caste or religion. The fair trade jewelry is made using many natural materials, pieces include wood jewelry, bone jewelry, brass jewelry among others explore the wide selection of the India necklace styles, India bangles and more.

The third fair trade jewelry organisation is a community health and development society dedicated to helping Delhi's urban poor. This fair trade jewelry organisation works with nearly 300,000 slum dwellers in 46 slum colonies around Delhi enabling them to transform their lives through the practice of India jewelry craft. Their aim is to provide people living in the slums with a chance to realise their potential regardless of their ethnic background, caste or religious beliefs.

The fair trade jewelry organisation works with the people to assist them with health care and improving their environmental conditions, while at the same time empowering and providing them with the confidence and the means to make sustainable positive change for the future. The India jewelry that they create includes India bangles, Wood India necklace styles and more.
