Fair Trade African Jewelry
This Fair Trade African Jewelry comes from a Fair Trade Jewelry Organisation started by three members from Mathare Valley, one of the oldest and largest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of this African Fair Trade Jewelry Organisation is to create a decent and more reliable means of income for people living in the slums, especially youths who in their despair might otherwise fall into delinquency or alcoholism.
In addition to the artisans who make the fair trade African jewelry, other people in the slums benefit from the organisation by supplying raw materials required for production.
There are 42 different ethnic groups in Kenya, each with distinctive traditions and customs. Their African jewelry is a reflection of these traditions. Each tribe uses different materials such as brass, aluminum, bone, seeds, reeds, glass beads and wood. All of these cultural influences are used to create highly distinctive African jewelry including tribal jewelry, bone jewelry African necklaces and more.
