This Fair Trade African Jewelry comes from a Fair Trade jewelry organisation started by 3 members from Mathare Valley, one of the oldest and largest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of this fair trade African jewelry organisation is to create a decent and more reliable means of income for people living in the slums, especially youths who in their despair might otherwise fall into delinquency or alcoholism.
In addition to the artisans who make the traditional African jewelry, other people in the slums benefit from the organisation by supplying raw materials required for production.
