Indian Jewellery CollectionThe pieces in this Collection are from three different Fair Trade Organisations.
The first organisation is part of a network of South Indian social organisations involving particularly disadvantaged women. The organisation was founded by social workers who are striving to improve the livelihoods of isolated women and their children from the Chennai slum. The organisation provides these women with resources and training to develop the necessary skills to craft these beautiful pieces of jewellery.
Included in the collection are a colourful selection of hand lacquered and painted wooden jewellery using natural vegetable dyes. The collection has been inspired by a centuries old technique from Karnataka who made lacquered wooden jewellery for local aristocrats. The collection pieces include wide and narrow bangles and wood bead necklaces.
The second organisation is a self help movement for those who can neither speak nor hear, except visually and others who cannot go anywhere except in their imagination and yet who aspire towards self sufficiency and acceptance as contributing members of the society.
The third organisation is a development organisation in Dehli who aim to provide those living in the Dehli slums the opportunity to reach their potential regardless of ethnic background, caste or religion. |
