Maritza's jewelry making creativity has been inspired by the beauty of her surrounding environment. It is little wonder that Maritza Quintero produces such exquisite works of art in her workshop in the Valparaiso hills. From her workshop, Maritza has been creating glass jewelry for ten years.
Before she began working in her workshop, Martiza studied at the University of Bellas Artes and has continued help her develop skills on her own.
Maritza prefers to work on her own, creating her own styles while continuing to stay abreast of new techniques.
She works seven days a week and up to twelve hours per day. During her busy periods, her sister help her in her workshop.
Maritza has been working with a Chilean Fair Trade organisation for three years which has increased her production demand. Her switch to a more intensive process and her capacity for impressive production has resulted in an increase in sales. This increase in sales has subsequently improved Maritza's standard of living.
Maritza now travels a lot and participates in both local and international artisans' fairs in order to keep up with new trends. Currently, 60% of her pieces are sold abroad.
Maritza's production process consists of cutting, cleaning, designing and enamelling glass. The glass sheets are placed on white clay moulds and then fired in an electric oven at 700°C for six hours.
Through this process, she creates jewelry pieces such as necklaces and rings. Maritza is always seeking new colours to experiment with, resulting in pieces that are not only beautiful, but also original.
